Volkswagen Australia has announced the release of the 2012 Amarok, adding two new engine options to the entry-level 2WD and announcing a new Cab Chassis option.
New for the Amarok in 2012 is Volkswagen's single-turbo 103kW diesel engine for the two-wheel-drive TDI340, offering 340Nm of torque between 1750 to 2250rpm.
As the most economical variant in the line-up (if only just), the TDI340 lists fuel consumption figures of 7.4 l/100km on the combined cycle.
The Amarok range also welcomes a petrol engine for the 2012 model year, with the turbocharged TSI300 producing 118kW between 3800 and 550rpm, and 300Nm from 1600rpm. Fuel consumption for the TSI300 is listed at 9.6 l/100km.
Both new engine options are available with a six-speed manual transmission only, and can be had with either a heavy duty or comfort suspension package.
The arrival of the new engines is accompanied by the Cab Chassis configuration, giving buyers greater freedom in modifying the Amarok to suit their needs.
New features for 2012 include the addition of a multi-function steering wheel as standard equipment for the Highline and Ultimate trim grades, and as an option for the Trendline and entry-level Amarok variants.
Heated seats are also standard for the Ultimate, and daytime-running lights are now standard across the range.

Pricing for the 2012 Amarok kicks off at $29,990 for the TDI340 Dual Cab Chassis, while the TSI300 Dual Cab Chassis starts at $30,590. All prices are Manufacturer's List Price and do not include dealer delivery or on-road costs.
