With the regular 2011 S60 sedan set to debut in Australia this year, Volvo has today unveiled the S60 R-Design, along with the wagon variant, the V60 R-Design.
Bringing a number of styling and handling upgrades, the R-Design variants of Volvo's latest models are aimed at younger buyers, eager to "put their own stamp" on their Volvo.
"With R-Design, we are attracting a younger target group," Product Development boss Magnus Jonsson said.
"We expect that 10 percent of all S60 and V60 customers will choose the R-Design option on markets where it is available. We aim to win over one-third of these customers from competing brands."
On the styling front, the R-Design variants of the S60 and V60 get a sportier front bumper, a small boot or tailgate spoiler and a faux rear diffuser with twin exhaust tips poking through.
"The challenge was to boost the dynamics without making the chassis feel raw. If the chassis is too firm, even smooth tarmac can feel bumpy," Volvo's Vehicle Dynamics chief, Stefdan Sallqvist said.
"We wanted a distinct yet plush feel. The car now has a more solid feel to it, which in turn helps make the steering feel even more responsive with a distinctive contact with the road."
Five-spoke 18-inch alloy wheels prop up each corner, with 15 percent stiffer springs and 20 percent stiffer bushes behind, along with a 15mm lower ride height. There's also new monotube dampers up back and a strut brace across the top of the engine bay.
Power remains unchanged from the regular models, and the R-Design package is available with all powertrains in the S60 and V60 line-up. Click here to learn more about the 2011 Volvo S60 and here for the 2011 Volvo V60.

The regular S60 sedan is due to launch in Australia this year, while the regular V60 will arrive in 2011.
