It?s going to be a busy task reporting on the Volkswagen Auto Group brands between now and 2010. The Group?s chairman Dr Martin Winterkorn has announced that, in that time, twenty all-new models will be launched.
Ordinarily, that would be a daunting challenge for any automaker (especially given the global slowdown), but with nine brands under its umbrella - Audi, Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini, Scania, SEAT, Skoda, Skoda, Volkswagen and VW Commercial Vehicles ? the task becomes a little easier to grasp.
Dr Winterkorn confirmed Volkswagen?s commitment to optimising its engine range, such as the TDI, TSI and TFSI diesel and petrol mills.
He said that Volkswagen Auto Group believes combustion engines will remain the dominant automotive power source for the foreseeable future.
Volkswagen hopes the new models will get the company on its way to increasing sales from 3.67 million worldwide in 2008 to 6.6 million in 2018.
The Group?s goal is to sit atop the international automotive industry as the world?s number one carmaker. It currently ranks third in overall sales, behind General Motors (second) and Toyota (first).
