PORSCHE 911 SPEEDSTER

Porsche's 911 Carrera GTS won't be the only new addition to the Porsche display at Paris later this month, with the German manufacturer announcing today that it will launch the extremely limited-edition Porsche 911 Speedster at the event.

Limited to just 356 units - a number inspired by the 1953 Porsche 356 Speedster - the 911 Speedster will be powered by the same 300kW 3.8 litre flat-six that drives the Carrera GTS, sent to the wheels via Porsche's seven-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission.

Just the streamlined design of the 356, the 911 Speedster adopts a modified windscreen that is nearly 7cm lower than the regular 911's windscreen. The 911 Speedster also benefits from the wider rear-end of the Carrera 4S Cabriolet.

Among the subtle stying differences, a distinctive plastic cover sits behind the seats, hiding a flat, manually-operated fabric roof.

Available in only one specification, the 911 Speedster gets almost all of Porsche's optional extras, including a black smooth-finish leather interior and checkerboard patterns in the seat centre in either of the available of the exterior colours: Pure Blue or Carrera White.

Australia

While the majority of the 911 Speedsters will make their way to North American and European homes, Porsche Australia has confirmed that the unique 911 variant will be offered in extremely limited numbers locally.

Exact numbers have not been confirmed, although Porsche Australia described it as "a handful." The 911 Speedster will be offered in Australia from $519,800.
