Though we know which Rolls Royce the Hyperion is based on, the Phantom Drophead Coupe, you could be forgiven for thinking this one-off creation from Pininfarina is an entirely new car - such is the level of engineering evident. While this styling may not be to everyone's taste, the Hyperion is a class act and shows just how elegant the clunky drop-top Rolls could have been.

Mechanically, little differs from the Phantom Drophead Coupe. It is powered by the same 6.75 litre V12 engine producing around 350kWs and a touch under 720Nms (which it definitely needs to move its 2.6 tonne kerb weight).

Pininfarina's effort has gone into styling and boy does it show. Before you take a look through the gallery below have a look at the following image of the Rolls Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe - it puts Pininfarina's spade work into perspective.

Every angle of the donor vehicle has been extensively remodelled to take a 'somewhat boring' Rolls and transform it into this head-turning classically-inspired coupe. While styling changes are too numerous to mention, pay special attention to the elongated hood, which was achieved by relocating the windscreen, as well as the redesigned headlights which replace the beady-eyed appearance of the Rolls.

Certainly, morale at Pininfarina is likely to have taken a tumble with the loss of CEO Andrea. But he would no doubt have been proud of the The Hyperion.
