Pininfarina CEO Dies in Motorcycle Accident

It has been reported that Andrea Pininfarina passed away yesterday following a motorcycle accident on the outskirts of Turin. Police chief Luigi Semenzato explained that Pininfarina was riding his Vespa scooter along a provincial highway when a driver failed to stop at an intersection and fatally struck the much-revered CEO.

51 year-old Andrea was the third generation of his family to take the helm of Pininfarina SpA and his loss will be widely felt throughout the industry. While most-famously associated with Ferrari, Pininfarina SpA has been involved with Fiat, Alfa Romeo, Cadillac and Volvo, among many others, since beginning operations in 1930.

Fiat chairman and Ferrari President Luca Cordero di Montezemolo had this to say;

“Italy, Turin and the entire Fiat Group have lost a symbol of entrepreneurialism, a man who carried on, and introduced innovations to, the work of his grandfather Pinin and his father Sergio,”

Andrea is survived by his wife and 3 children. Our thoughts are with them all.

Was total shock when I read this last night, and it’s very sad to hear he’s passed away, definately an icon of Italian design and culture. Respect and rest in Peace.

A huge loss for the motoring industry - condolences to his family.
