News overnight has been largely centered around the new version of the Gallardo that Lamborghini will be unveiling next week in Geneva. Originally thought to be named the LP550 it is now suggested that the new Gallardo will be dubbed the LP560-4.
The ?560? is said to reference the baby Lambo?s metric power output of 560PS or 412kW, while the ?4? references the Gallardo?s four-wheel-drive system.
If this suggestion is true, then it will mark a departure from previous Lamborghini naming conventions, which in the case of the AWD Murcielago have never used a number in the name to reference to drive system.
?The new Gallardo LP560-4 is a significantly enhanced version of what was already an extreme car. With an even more sharply defined character, the new Gallardo LP560-4 is also innately elegant and sensuous : the expression of an uncompromised lifestyle. We look forward to launch our first new product for 2008 at the Geneva show,? said Stephan Winkelmann, President and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini SpA.
Winkelmann?s quote accompanied the sketch and would appear to confirm the new name.
It is also rumoured that the new Gallardo?s engine will be more closely related to the 5.2-litre V10 found in Audi?s RS6. The 5.2-litre FSI direct injection engine is said to be more durable than the 5.0-litre found in current Gallardo.
