With the modified Evo X having proven itself in the recent Britcar 24hr Endurance event, Mitsubishi UK has given the all-clear for production of a road-going version, to be dubbed the FQ400.
While this is not the first time Mitsubishi has produced a hotted-up homegrown Evo, it was unclear, until now, if the new generation Evo X would receive the same top level treatment (FQ300 and FQ360's having already been produced). The good news for buyers is that the FQ400 designation directly relates to horsepower - so expect 400 ponies under the vented hood.
Should Mitsubishi follow the same path as the tuned Britcar contestant, expect the bag of new components to include a bigger turbo, fuel system, exhaust manifold and revised engine management. Larger brakes and better suspension would also be a no-brainer given the car's expected performance figures.
While we won't be seeing the FQ400 available in our local Mitsu dealerships, it's a great indicator of just what the platform is capable of. Almost 300kWs of power and all-paw traction should be enough to send shivers through the Evo's showroom competitors.
