Leaked clay model photos of McLaren's coming P11 supercar have just hit the web and it looks as though the speculative renderings we brought you back in August, were close to the mark. UK automotive magazine Car managed to obtain the images from an insider and has been kind enough to spread the love.
The two-door mid-engined supercar has been kept under close wraps, however various reports from people lucky enough to have spotted the prototype during testing, suggest the P11 will be a formidable machine. A Mercedes-Benz sourced 6.2-litre V8 engine is a distinct possibility, which, when coupled with an expected kerb-weight of around 1200kgs, should see McLaren's new baby put down some serious times.
Track-side witnesses at Surrey's Dunsfold circuit, have also reported that the P11 is capable of lightning fast shift times. This implies an F1 style sequential gearbox is a feature, and not surprising given McLaren's racing involvement.
While the P11 certainly has some big 'F1' shoes to fill at McLaren, these images confirm that on looks along the new car will be right up there. The P11 is expected to be priced in the ??150,000 and ??200,000 range, and should go a long way to securing McLaren's future as a producer of road-going supercars.
