THE HOTLY ANTICIPATED Lexus LFA has been unveiled, although some hours sooner than the Japanese luxury carmaker (and now supercarmaker) will have liked.

Due to be revealed early tomorrow at the Tokyo Motor Show, official information for the final production version of Lexus' first supercar - including promotional photos and a short list of technical details - has leaked online this morning.

Now confirmed is that the LFA is powered by a 4.8 litre 72-degree V10, with 418kW (87kW per litre) at 8700rpm and 480Nm of torque at 6800rpm, mated to a six-speed sequential transmission. A Torsen LSD distributes torque across the rear wheels.

Redlining at 9000rpm, the LFA lists an official 0-100km/h sprint of 3.7 seconds and a top speed of 325km/h.

By comparison, the brand-new Ferrari 458 Italia develops 425kW and 540Nm from its 4.8 litre V8, achieving 100km/h in 3.4 seconds and, matched by the LFA,  powering onto a claimed top speed of just over 325km/h.

With 65 percent of its body being carbon fibre, the LFA has a 48/52 front-to-rear weight distribution. However, weighing in at 1480kg, it is a full 100kg heavier than its Italian counterpart.

The new Lexus supercar sits on 20-inch BBS wheels shod with 265/35 ZR20 Bridgestone tyres up front, and 305/30 ZR20 tyres at the rear.

As rumoured in recent months, production is limited to 500 cars, making the LFA an instant collector's item.
