BMW Z10 ED 'Green' Supercar Coming To Take On The Audi R8? Photo:

Going on the illustration alone, you could be forgiven for thinking that BMW had looked to the robotic face of Transformers antagonist Megatron for inspiration.

Thankfully ? or at least for pedestrians ? the sketch shown here is merely a concept by British rag AutoCar, and according to them, the BMW Z10 ED might be along soon to take on the Audi R8.

Utilising a range of ?green? technologies such as BMW?s stop-start system and the thermoelectric generator exhaust-to-electricity technology we touched on last week, the Z10 ED should be the cleanest supercar getting around.

AC speculates that BMW is eyeing the Audi R8 as the competitive inspiration for the Z10 ED, and BMW head designer Adrian van Hooydonk describes the car as ?the answer to the very interesting question ?what if we designed a car of the future???

van Hooydonk went on to explain that despite the German giant?s hopes for the project, the current economic climate might not be the best time to launch a supercar ? even one as ?green? as the Z10 ED. ?I?m not sure it?s number one to carve out some territory in the supercar market,? he said.

Still, if Mercedes is working on an Audi R8 rival, BMW surely has little choice but to follow suit. By the way, don't put any store in the image above... it has been doing the rounds but is nothing to do with the actual... er, rumoured car. (A fine effort by a bored work experience student maybe.)
