Whether you love it or hate it, Porsche’s Cayenne range has been a winner for the German automaker. While many decry the lack of sporting intent evident in the lesser Cayenne models, further up the range things are anything but dull. edo Competition has now raised the bar on the mid-spec GTS model with a host of visual and performance upgrades that are sure to delight Cayenne fans.

Porsche’s ongoing battle to take control of Volkswagen is already paying dividends for the German manufacturer as it posted a record USD$10.9 billion profit for the financial year ended July ‘08. How do you know when times are getting tough? When manufacturers like Porsche start rolling out economy models, that’s when.
That’s right, rumour has it that the Stuttgart-based performance car builder is planning to release a four-cylinder version of the incredibly popular Boxster by 2011, bringing down emissions, fuel consumption and presumably price.
Not much is known about the fuel-sipping Boxster at this stage, other than that it’ll likely offer up a lowly 150-odd kilowatts with the aid of a turbocharger and be “the most economical Porsche ever”. Not really TMR’s cup of tea, but no doubt it’ll go down a treat with those who desperately want the Porsche image, but don’t necessarily need Porsche performance.

This Sunday just gone (UK time) saw the return of the one true Top Gear to British television sets, and to computer screens of net-savvy fans around the world this morning. Let me tell you: they’ve still got it.
Clarkson pits the Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 against the Porsche 911 GT2 – describing the latter as “terrifying”. “This is due to a difficult global economic situation, especially in the United States,” a spokesman for Porsche said. For sheer sales numbers, the US is Porsche’s biggest market.
If Dutch automotive website Autoweek.nl isn’t telling us porky pies, then someone there has managed to stumble upon images of the 2009 model Porsche Boxster and Cayman during a visit to the Porsche online vehicle configuration program. So far we’ve been unable to confirm the reports, but we’ve got the images on hand for your viewing pleasure.

What is it about bragging rights that strikes deep into the psyche? And right now, for production sports cars there’s no bragging right hotter than the Nürburgring Nordschleife production car lap record. You can make a ‘bazillion’ kilowatts, but more has been said about the Dodge Viper ACR, Chevrolet Corvette ZR-1, Porsche 911 Turbo and Nissan GT-R on the famous ‘Ring than said about the replacement for the Veyron.
Porsche is a company with a proud history. As Germany’s most successful motorsport manufacturer, with a reputation for both performance and reliability envied the world over, you know that owning the ‘Ring record on ’home turf’ would be a high priority. Perhaps as high for Porsche as taking over Volkswagen. Read Article
RUF Automobile GmbH confirmed via press release that it will be the first manufacturer from Germany to release a fully-electric sports car when it took the wraps of the eRUF Concept. There’s nothing to give it away externally, aside from the lack of engine noise, but take a look out back and things are notably different.
