UPDATE: Opel has announced it is leaving the Australian market immediately. More information here.
The Zafira people-mover is returning to Australia - but like the smaller Astra, this time it will wear Opel's lighting bolt instead of the Holden lion.
Unveiled in 2011, the third-generation Zafira has been on Opel Australia's agenda for sometime, and reports earlier this year confirmed the wagon had achieved Australian Design Rules compliance.
This week, Opel Australia boss Bill Mott has confirmed the seven-seat Zafira will debut locally in the middle of this year, with pricing and specifications to be revealed closer to launch.
While exact details are still to come, Mr Mott confirmed that local models will be available with Opel's 1.6 litre turbo four-cylinder petrol and 2.0 litre turbodiesel engines.
Among the Zafira's rivals will be Kia's new Rondo, due in May, and the ageing Citroen C4 Grand Picasso (the recently revealed 2013 model is still to be confirmed for Australia).
In Australia, the Zafira will form Opel's fourth model line, after last year's debut of the Insignia, Astra and Corsa models.
