The Ford Consul Capri was first released by Ford Britain in 1962. It was originally intended for export only as it was a classier up-market version of the current Ford Anglia model. To accompany the all new design, the Consul Capri included features never before seen on a British made Ford including four headlights, variable windscreen wiper speed, front disc brakes and dimming dash lights. It was later dubbed by Ford to be ?The first personal car by Ford of Great Britain?. The styling partnered with the extravagant features caused the model to exceed its original budget and with the success of the newly released Ford Cortina, production was halted in 1964 after assembling only 19,421 units over a 2 ? year period. The early models produced until mid-way through 1962 featured a 1.3L 4 cylinder engine which produced 56bhp with a top speed of 127km/h. This vehicle was imported new to Australia in 1962 for official use by the Taiwanese government at their Australian consulate. The vehicle saw regular use until it was sold in the late 1960s. Much of its history is unknown until the car resurfaced in rural Victoria where it was purchased by its previous owner in the early 2000s and in need of rejuvenation. As a passionate Ford enthusiast he then began a 5 year ground up ?nut and bolt? restoration utilising ?new old stock? parts to bring the Consul Capri back to its former glory. The vehicle was completed in 2010 and in 2011 it won ?Best in Show? among other awards at the All Ford Day in Geelong, Victoria. It also made the cover of Ford Australia Magazine at the time documenting the quality of the rebuild. The vehicle comes with a large history file including manuals, receipts, photographs being lifted off the ship in 1962, multiple trophies and other memorabilia.
