2006 Ford Futura – Quick drive review
Powered by a lusty 4.0-litre in-line six-cylinder engine, the Futura is well capable of hauling families and loads within its ample body. Indeed, the claim from Ford is that 1254 litres of luggage space is still available with all five seats occupied.
Everyone should travel in acceptable comfort, because the Futura rides quite well despite having only leaf springs and a live-axle rear suspension.
The 190 kW/383 Nm engine is a bit of a sophisticate though, with independently variable dual overhead camshafts and dual independent knock sensors.
It mates to a basic four-speed auto rather than the six-speed many Falcon sedans have, although the fuel consumption claim is still 11.1 L/100 km. That's OK for such a big and heavy vehicle. If petrol prices and consumption are a concern then consider E-Gas, the dedicated LPG version of the 4.0 engine, costing an extra $1400.
The Futura comes standard with dual front and side airbags, traction control and ABS with EBD. Other perks include air-conditioning, alloy wheels, cruise control, remote central locking, single-CD audio, a partially powered driver's seat and a trip computer.
