2024 Volvo EX30 electric car clocks-up 500 pre-orders, 6000 registrations of interest

A healthy queue is already forming for Volvo’s smallest and cheapest electric car, ahead of its showroom arrival next year.

Interest in the 2024 Volvo EX30 electric car has surpassed records– with more than 500 orders taken to date – six to nine months before anyone has taken a test drive.

The EX30 – the Chinese-owned Swedish car maker’s new entry-level city SUV, and its most affordable electric car to date, priced from $59,990 plus on-road costs – was unveiled last month and is not due in Australian showrooms until the end of this year, or early next year.

Volvo Australia says it has already recorded “over 500” orders, and the number of customers that have enquired about the car with a dealer is “closing in on 1000”.

More than 6000 people are said to have registered their interest in the Volvo EX30 on the company’s website, and it is said to be the highest level of interest prior to launch ever recorded for a new Volvo in Australia.

Australia is believed to be one of the first markets outside Europe to get the EX30, with the first examples due to be delivered to local customers three to six months ahead of UK and US buyers.

The Volvo EX30 is the company's third electric vehicle in Australia – arriving ahead of the large EX90 SUV, due late next year pending any delays – and is a step towards its plan to go electric-only and end sales of petrol cars in Australia from 2026.

There are three models in the local range: the rear-wheel-drive Single Motor Extended Plus ($59,990 plus on-road costs), rear-drive Single Motor Extended Ultra ($64,990 plus on-road costs) and all-wheel-drive Twin Motor Performance Ultra ($69,990 plus on-road costs).

Up to 480km of claimed driving range is available from a 69kWh battery, while the flagship all-wheel-drive performance model is capable of sprinting from zero to 100km/h in a claimed 3.6 seconds.
