Volkswagen looks to revitalise Golf sales
German brand pushes introductory offer for new small car range.
Volkswagen to offer special drive-away prices for new Golf small car.
The German brand is slashing the price of the new Golf '7.5' hatch, wagon and Alltrack ranges, with some variants going without on-road costs for the initial release in July, 2017.
With small passenger car sales in decline - as buyers shift their attention to SUVs - VW is looking to keep the attention firmly on its volume selling offering that has seen its sales fall by more than 20 per cent so far this year compared to the same period in 2016.
VW has done away with the previous base 92TSI models and instead only offers the more potent 110TSI as standard. This in turn has raised the price of admission in to the Golf range from $22,480 plus on-roads to $23,990.
However, for a limited time VW has made $23,990 the drive-away price, which effectively makes it cheaper than the outgoing 92TSI despite the extra grunt and kit that comes with the new model.
The Golf GTI and R hatches will join the line-up in August with the Golf R wagon arriving in January 2018. However, for those that aren't prepared to wait until January, VW are offering 300 examples of the Wolfsburg edition Golf R wagon from late August.
