Volkswagen is preparing to unveil a new special-edition version of its Golf GTI hero, promising more power and a very limited production run.
Set to debut at next week’s Wörthersee GTI-Treffen event in Austria, the new GTI Clubsport concept is described as a “near series” show car that will evolve into a special 40th anniversary model next year.
Shown here as an enhanced (and stylised) version of the three-door Golf GTI, not offered in Australia, the Clubsport will wear unique bumpers at both ends, larger multi-spoke wheels and a tall rear wing across the tailgate.
Under the bonnet is where things get exciting, however. Like the Edition 35 before it - which celebrated the GTI’s 35th birthday - the GTI Clubsport will get a significant power boost, positioning it between the regular GTI and the top-shelf Golf R.
