Video: A 102-year-old woman’s need for speed

The elderly NASCAR fan had the chance to live out her motorsport dream by driving along one of the sport’s racing circuits in the US.

A 102-year-old NASCAR fan, Bindy Gralow, recently had the opportunity to experience a motorsport dream by riding around the Richmond Raceway – one of the circuits included in the sport’s calendar, located in the US state of Virginia.

US news outlet 12 On Your Side posted a video online of the elderly woman's time at the racetrack – which included being driven in a Toyota Camry pace car around the 1.2km stretch of road.

In the video, Ms Gralow can be heard telling the driver, “Go as fast as you like because I like fast.”

Due to possible health and safety concerns, the driver was instructed to drive at a maximum speed of 65 mph (approximately 104km) – but that didn’t stop the elderly NASCAR fan from enjoying the ride along as local reports claimed the vehicle drove around the circuit at least six times.

"I always liked [NASCAR] all my life. I wanted to go faster. It [the experience] wasn’t long enough,” Ms Gralow said after finishing her time on the racetrack.

To commemorate this experience, Richmond Raceway allowed Ms Gralow and her family to sign a white square at the start/finish line of the circuit.

"We're extremely humbled to help make her wishes come true as she fulfilled her need for speed," President of Richmond Raceway, Lori Colier Waran said in a media statement.
