Victoria Police highway patrol cars were out in force on Melbourne's Monash Freeway on the weekend, enforcing restricted speed limits during ongoing roadworks.

During Operation Red X, police picked up two suspended drivers and one disqualified driver. Police also found one seat-belt offence and booked three drivers for failing to display L or P playes.

Speeding drives provided the greatest haul for police however, with 23 motorists caught exceeding the restricted speed limits.

Two motorists were caught driving with a blood-alcohol level over the legal limit. One male driver returned an alleged alcohol breath reading of 0.110 percent, and was caught after passing a marked police car at 119km/h in a 100km/h zone.
