The light commerical craze continues in September according to new figures released by the federal chambers of automotive industries.
Australia's best selling car in Australia last month was the Ford Ranger with 4318 units moved, the Toyota HiLux was second with 3822.
September sales rebounded from the August low with light commercials and predictably popular passenger cars doing the heavy lifting.
The Toyota Corolla was again the best performing non-commercial with 3055 sales, followed closely by the Mazda3 with 2776.
A wave of nostalgia helped propel the Holden Commodore sales to 2547, its highest point in many months, as buyers clammer to get their hands on Australia's last locally built large car before production ends this October.
Hyundai continues its march into the Australia's mainstream new car buying psyche with the South Korean carmaker's i30 small car (2300) and Tucson medium SUV (2220) both continuing to feature in the top 10 consistently.
Hyundai's sister brand Kia also continues to solidify its place in the local market with continued growth across several key segments.
Mitsubishi is building on the strong showing by the Triton ute last month by having the Mitsubishi Outlander crack the top 10 this month, selling 2021 units, which even eclipsed the Mazda CX-5 (1910).
Mercedes-Benz is the only bright spot in the mainstream luxury car segment with sales growth of 7.5 per cent for the year, while rivals Audi and BMW has seen its sales drop 11.7 per cent and 16.1 per cent respectively.
However, the extreme top end of the market has seen significant growth with Aston Martin, Bentley, McLaren and Rolls-Royce exceeding last year's results.
The market as a whole is on track to beat last year's overall figures.
