Top-tier Tesla executive Jerome Guillen departs, reasoning unclear
Mr Guillen was moved to the brand's struggling truck division earlier this year. It's unclear why he left, and what he plans to do next.
Tesla heavyweight executive Jerome Guillen – who formerly served as President of Automotive, led Model S development, and more recently headed up the brand’s trucking division – has left the electric vehicle specialist, according to an 8K SEC filing released overnight.
“As of June 3, 2021, Jerome … departed Tesla. We thank him for his many contributions and wish him well in his future career,” the document notes. It is unclear if he resigned or was pushed out.
Mr Guillen is a qualified mechanical engineer and joined Tesla in 2010, having previously served as Director of Business Innovation at Daimler AG (the parent company of Mercedes-Benz).
Between 2018 and 2021 he oversaw Tesla’s entire automotive development program, and earlier this year was tapped to rescue the brand’s plagued heavy truck division.
The Semi heavy truck (shown below) – which is still in its development phase – was unveiled in 2017 and originally slated for launch in 2019. Updated launch timing for the model remains unclear.
