The Week That Was – Toyota Hilux Tesla Model X Volkswagen Dieselgate

Following an initial announcement earlier this year, Toyota’s all-new HiLux is ready to roll out of Australian showrooms.

Underpinned by an all-new, more rigid chassis, the eighth generation Hilux promises to build on the previous model’s rugged abilities, while delivering a more comfortable and quiet operating environment.

Over one million kilometres of development testing was carried out on the new models, with Toyota putting in some 650,000km in Australia alone, pinpointing how pivotal this market is.

In a presentation this week, Tesla CEO Elon Musk unveiled the new all-electric Model X SUV, with the claim it was designed to be the safest car on the road.

Tesla also showed off the Model X’s unusual Falcon doors - a roof hinged variable opening rear door that needs only 30cm of space to open and is fitted with sensors to prevent roof-strike in underground carparks.

All-wheel-drive is standard, running the same dual-motor set up as seen in the Model S sedan.
