The coolest Mazda MX-5 mash-up
Those who can’t decide between a Mazda MX-5 and Chevrolet Corvette Stingray can now have the best of both worlds.
Japanese custom car company Mitsuoka is renowned for building oddball machines with a touch of retro charm.
They’re back at it again, taking a humble Japanese roadster and infusing it with more than a dash of Americana.
Dubbed the “Rock Star”, the re-bodied MX-5 commemorates the company’s 50th anniversary with a thorough transformation inspired by the second-gen Chevrolet Corvette Stingray - the only external metalwork left over is said to be the doors.
Only 50 examples are set to be created with a price tag likely to be double that of a base model MX-5 in the US.
A run of six colours inspired by American cities will be available: Los Angeles blue, Chicago red, New York black, Cisco orange, Washington white and Arizona yellow.
True Corvette fans could give the conversion even more authenticity and swap the four-cylinder engine for an all-American V8 courtesy of US tuners Flyin Miata.
