How to get an extra $750 off your first Tesla

Tesla has announced it will offer a $750 discount on its Australian models to new buyers who have been referred by existing customers.

And people who already own a Tesla – and who refer others to buy a car – will receive credits to spend on merchandise and accessories.

In a post uploaded to Tesla’s Australian website, the electric-car specialist said its ‘Refer and Earn’ program will allow existing Tesla owners in Australia to provide a ‘referral link’ for non-Tesla customers to buy its battery-powered models.

Available to new customers who used the referral link to place an order for a Model 3 sedan or Model Y SUV from 24 February 2023, Tesla offers a $750 discount from the electric-car’s purchase price.

New Tesla buyers will also receive a three-month trial of its ‘Enhanced Autopilot’ semi-autonomous driving system, the company’s most advanced driver assistance technology which has been approved for Australian roads.

Enhanced Autopilot includes common driver assistance functions such as adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assistance, plus more advanced features including automatic navigation, lane change and parking.

Unlimited access to Enhanced Autopilot in Australia is priced from $5100.

In addition to the rebates available for new customers, Tesla will give existing owners who distribute the referral links up to 10,000 referral credits – redeemable in the Tesla smartphone app towards merchandise, car accessories and use of the company’s ‘Supercharger’ network.  

Existing Tesla owners are limited to five successful referrals per calendar year, effectively capping their available referral credits through the loyalty program at 50,000 annually.

According to news agency Reuters, Tesla’s latest loyalty program has also rolled out in the US, China, Germany, France, Canada, Mexico, Hong Kong and Singapore, among other countries.

The loyalty program discounts follow $3900 price cuts for Tesla’s Model 3 and Model Y earlier this month, as prices of the company’s electric cars fall to new lows in Australia.

The Tesla Model 3 is now priced from $57,400 plus on-road costs in single-motor guise, with the Long Range and Performance starting from $70,400 and $83,400, respectively.

The Tesla Model Y – which is the best-selling electric-car in Australia this year – is priced from $65,400 plus on-road costs in single-motor guise, while the Long Range and Performance start from $78,400 and $92,020, respectively.
