SongSang Motors newest model has arrived and it may look a little familiar

BYD brand SS Motors has launched the SS Summer – a stylish, retro combi van reminiscent of the Volkswagen Type 2.

The SS Summer is not the typical transporter that you see on the roads nowadays, but it is a rather charming and cheaper version of a classic Kombi, originating in China. The SS Summer carries a price-tag of around $58,000 Australian dollars.

The interior includes a third row, leather seats that are power adjustable, plus the cockpit scores a large LCD control screen. For additional cabin space the second row can be laid flat to act as a coffee table.

Other highlights include double sliding doors and 17-inch wheels. The SS Summer measures in at 4950/1980/1880mm with a the wheelbase of 2820mm. It's powered by a 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine and a single-motor plug-in hybrid system with a power output of 235kW and 475Nm.

According to SongSang, the SS Summer is expected to start deliveries in the summer of 2022.

SongSang Motors became known to the industry last year when they launched their SS Dolphin at Beijing Auto Show. The car took its general shape and design from the 1958 Corvette, but added some modern elements such as plug-in hybrid technology.
