Renault reveals the taxi of tomorrow

French brand showcases autonomous, electric and connected car concept.

Renault's vision for the future promises mobility for all.

The French marque debuted its EZ-Go concept at the 2018 Geneva motor show, a follow-on from the Symbioz personal mobility concept displayed at the 2017 Frankfurt motor show.

While the Symbioz was a personal autonomous, electric and connected vehicle the Ez-Go is a shared urban version of the same concept.

The French brand sees the Ez-Go as the answer to the world's future mobility issues when in 2050 it claims that up to 70 per cent of the world's population is expected to live in urban environments.

Conceptually, the Ez-Go will act as an on-demand vehicle that is both affordable and easily accessible and offers a zero emissions option to those who can't afford, can't drive or have no where to store a vehicle.

The Ez-Go's green credentials are being spruiked as many European cities grapple with growing air pollution and are looking to ban certain vehicles based on age or fuel type.

Drive

Renault envisions the Ez-Go to operate via an app or manually via a physical station and can accommodate groups or individuals.

However, the Ez-Go will need cities to develop with it and transform in to what it refers to as 'smart cities' where connected vehicles interact with the surrounding environment.

Renault isn't the first car maker to view an autonomous on-demand vehicle with many car makers developing partnerships with current ride-sharing companies to help test and build autonomous cars and test future applications.
