The reborn Renault Alpine will be powered by a new 1.8 litre turbocharged petrol engine, according to reports out of Europe.
Automotivpress reports the new powerplant will be born from the 1.6 litre turbocharged unit currently powering the Renault Clio RS - the unit originally rumoured to power the new Alpine.
Three power figures have been suggested, with buyers given the choice of 185kW, 205kW or 220kW outputs and with escalating pricing to match.
Aside from the extra capacity, the key difference between the Clio’s 1.6 and the Alpine’s new 1.8 litre unit will reportedly be the engine management system, a new cylinder-head and beefed-up cooling system.
