Tesla has recalled its Model X SUV in Australia this week, due to a potential problem with the passenger side front airbag.
Vehicles sold locally between January and June of this year are affected by the recall, built between April 2016 and June 2017.
A total of 469 Model Xs are on the recall list for Australia.
Tesla says the Model X’s restraint control module (RCM) may not trigger the passenger airbag when required during a collision. This could increase the risk of injury for the vehicle occupants.
The carmaker adds that it is not aware of any such incidents, however, and that the issue came to light via routine internal testing.
The good news for Tesla customers is that the fix only requires acceptance of the latest over-the-air updates (coming soon). But while some customers like to download updates at certain times, Tesla strongly advises owners to install this update without delay.
In the meantime, Tesla advises that the front passenger seat remain vacant until the software update has been installed.
