Range Rover Evoque To Remain Hybrid in Second Generation

Jaguar Land Rover UK chief Rawdon Glover told autocar.uk that for now, the Evoque would stay as a hybrid until there was enough market demand for a fully electric small to medium-size SUV.

The new Evoque sits on a platform that can work with the traditional internal combustion engine for its drivetrain, or as a mild hybrid or a plug in electric vehicle (PHEV)—in other words, a regular hybrid.

Glover said that a fully electric variant of the popular entry-level SUV wouldn’t be until its next generation—and considering the second generation only just hit the road, that may not be for a while.

For now, in the UK Jaguar Land Rover has plans for the Evoque PHEV to arrive within the next 12 months—so Australians may have a little longer.

It ill be powered by a 197 bhp three-cylinder 1.5—litre petrol engine together with a 107bhp electric motor, and will be a “fleet game changer” according to Glover, with Land Rover expecting it to make up a third of all of Evoque’s sales in the UK.

Hybrid tech is being rolled out throughout the Range Rover portfolio, with plug-in hybrids for the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport available since 2017.
