Porsche unveils 911 GT3 RS Weissach Package
German brand reveals its even more extreme road-going race car.
Porsche’s new 911 GT3 RS has been put on a diet.
The German brand has revealed its first ever lightweight Weissach Package for its road-going race car. Previously offered on the GT2 RS and 918 Spyder, the Weissach Package brings a range of weight-saving items to the already track-focused 911.
The most obvious new additions are the exposed carbon fibre roof and bonnet, which Porsche claims the new roof saves 498g compared to the GT3’s magnesium roof and 1.3kg over an aluminium top.
Lightweight carbon fibre has also been used on the suspension, with the stabilizer bars and suspension coupling rods now made of the high-tech material to save 5.3kg.
Every gram of weight has been looked at by the Porsche engineers with even the steering wheel trim and shift paddles now made of carbon fibre to save just 225g. Even the carpet is lighter by 225g.
But it doesn’t come cheap with the Weissach Package priced from US$18,000 (approx. $23,000) for the new parts.
If that’s not enough, customers can spend even more - US$13,000 - to get a set of forged magnesium wheels to replaced the standard forged aluminium rims. While that’s a lot of extra money on top of the Weissach Package the new rims save 11kg of weight.
Porsche Australia has been contacted for local pricing and timing of the Weissach Package. The new GT3 RS is due to arrive in Australia in the third quarter of 2018.
