Porsche reveals fastest 718 Cayman race car yet, now on sale in Australia

The lightweight six-cylinder race car starts from approximately $AU304,000 in Australia.

German marque Porsche pulled the covers off its new 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport race car overnight – and it’s now on sale in Australia.

Largely underpinned by running gear from the road-going 718 Cayman GT4 RS, Porsche's newest track toy is all but certain to be its fastest production 718 variant to date.

A 4.0-litre flat-six petrol 'boxer' engine – borrowed from the larger 911 GT3 Cup – sends 368kW/465Nm to the rear wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

A 0-100km/h time and top speed are yet to be confirmed. However, the 718 Cayman GT4 RS in road-going guise completes the benchmark sprint in 3.4 seconds, before redlining in seventh gear at 315km/h.

A carbon-fibre bonnet, rear wing, and door panels help shed weight, while chassis upgrades and new dampers improve responsiveness and handling.

For track-day aficionados looking to draw out every last tenth, the new Porsche's ride height, anti-roll bars, camber and toe-in are fully adjustable.

Stopping power comes courtesy of 380mm steel discs at all four corners of the car, and these sit within 20-inch alloy wheels.

Inside, a welded roll-cage wraps around one Recaro bucket seat. An integrated fire extinguisher system comes standard, as does a tri-pronged air jack.

The Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport is now on sale in Australia on special request, priced from approximately $AU304,000 at the entry level (adjusted from its €196,000 official price).
