Porsche Lining Up Panamera Coupe: Reports

German carmaker Porsche is reportedly working on a two-door version of its Panamera sedan in a bid to take on the BMW 8 Series and Aston Martin Vantage.

The Panamera is Porsche’s only sedan model, and has been available since 2010, so it’s only fitting that a brand known for two-door sports cars create a two-door version of its only four-door vehicle (that isn’t an SUV).

Coverage is so far limited to the carmaker not denying that its working on the two-door Panamera models—and Porsche design chief Michael Mauer didn’t do much to pour any cold water on the reports.

“As a designer there are no limits to what I can conceive,” he told Autocar.

“I believe it is the design department’s role to sketch and consider every model it can for the future so that we are ready should anyone wish to pursue a project.“

Mauer added that it wasn’t his place to confirm or deny reports however.

The two-door Panamera - which would come in coupe and cabrio versions could be unveiled as early as 2020, and are envisaged as larger, more practical takes on the popular 911 sports car.

German media has so far suggested that the models are well developed and almost ready to be unveiled, sitting on shortened versions of the Panamera platform

Coverage has also speculated that the news models - which may not carry the Panamera name—would nonetheless include Panamera’s drivetrain options including a plug-in hybrid option.
