Porsche 718 Cayman T due in 2019 – report
Stripped-out variant coming next year in similar vein to the 911 Carrera T.
Porsche is said to be preparing a 718 Cayman T for a market launch sometime next year, bringing a more pure driving experience to its entry-level sports car range.
According to a new report by Auto Express, the German marque is putting the 'finishing touches' on the more focused 718 Cayman variant, which will likely be positioned between the Cayman S and Cayman GTS grades.
Following a similar path to the larger 911 Carrera T, the Cayman T should have thinner glass, fabric door handles, and sports seats. The infotainment system will also likely be removed – or available as an option – helping to shed around 20kg from the kerb weight.
The publication claims power will come from a version of the 2.5-litre turbocharged 'boxer' engine as the S and GTS models, with a power output projected to be around 360bhp (268kW).
In addition to the stripped-out interior, the Cayman T is said to feature specification items normally reserved for the options list, including a sports exhaust, the Sport Chrono package (including a 10mm-lower ride height), and larger 20-inch alloy wheels in sticky tyres.
The Cayman T is expected to hit the UK market in the northern hemisphere's spring next year – our autumn, so March/April – so going by that timeline you could expect an Australian introduction before the end of 2019.
Auto Express adds this move also indicates the current-generation 718 is towards the end of its life-cycle, with an all-new variant expected to launch sometime in 2020. Don't forget a 718 Cayman GT4 and 718 Boxster Spyder should debut soon, too.
