Peugeot Italy has refurbished a rare Peugeot 205 GTi Gutmann and added it to its fleet of press vehicles. Why? We don't know.
But given the 205 GTi is considered a landmark car from the early days of hot hatches, we kinda wish Peugeot Australia would do the same thing.
The fact that Peugeot Italy chose a rare Gutmann-tuned example to resurrect makes it all the more enticing.
The German tuning company specialised in tuning packages for Peugeot cars of the era, and their take on the 205 GTi 1.9 litre saw the addition of the cylinder head from the 309 GTi, a free-flowing intake and exhaust and a revised engine tune to take power to 96kW.
That's a handy increase over the 86kW that the standard 1.9-litre 205 GTi pushed out.
Other mods included an oil cooler, a 30mm lower suspension, shorter gearing for the differential and fifth gear, a front suspension brace, stronger clutch and uprated braking hardware.
Exterior changes were more restrained, with the classic 205 GTi's bodywork complemented by 15-inch Gutmann alloys and a light sprinkling of Gutmann badging.
