Peugeot 308 Touring sees higher than expected demand
The new Peugeot 308 Touring wagon has only been on sale a month and has exceeded sales forecasts by almost 300 per cent.
Speaking with CarAdvice, Peugeot Australia says that one in three 308s sold has been the wagon. Peugeot sold 112 308s last month, of which almost 40 were wagons. This demand now sees deliveries with a 12-week wait - but that hasn't slowed interest down.
We drove the 308 Touring both in France earlier this year and on local shores recently and were impressed with its style, space and practicality.
The previous-generation 308 wagon featured a seven-seat option - something missing from the new car - but the look of the older 308 was somewhat polarising, where the 2014 European Car of the Year has seen buyers return to the French brand with its modern and classy style.
The Peugeot 308 Touring is currently offered with a 110kW/370Nm 2.0-litre turbo diesel engine, but the range will expand to include a 110kW/240Nm turbo petrol motor in early 2015.
With the sales success of the 308, recent release of the Mercedes-Benz C-Class Estate and Volvo V60 Polestar, as well a new Audi A4 Avant, Volkswagen Golf R wagon, Mercedes-CLA Shooting Brake and potentially Jaguar XE Estate on the cards... could we see buyers returning to the wagon as a style alternative to SUVs?
Will 2015 be the 'Year of the Wagon'? Our CarAdvice crystal ball says yes.
