New Renault Kangoo delayed until 2023

The arrival of the first new Renault Kangoo in over a decade has been pushed back until next year, in both combustion-engined and all-electric guises.

The next-generation 2023 Renault Kangoo is not due to arrive in Australia until early next year – nearly two and a half years after it was revealed for European markets.

The new Kangoo van – the first new model in 12 years – was initially slated to arrive from the third quarter of 2022 (July to September), however various “shipping delays” have pushed the launch to the first quarter of 2023 (January to March), according to Renault’s local importer Ateco.

As previously indicated, petrol and/or diesel versions of the new van will arrive first, with the E-Tech Electric variant to follow in the months after.

It means by the time the new Renault Kangoo van arrives in Australia, it will have been on sale in Europe for more than 18 months (June 2021) – and almost two and a half years after it was unveiled globally in November 2020.

Details for Australia are yet to be confirmed, however given the safety, technology and performance enhancements on offer, prices are likely to rise over the current model, which costs $26,390 to $32,590 plus on-road costs for petrol and diesel models.

The current Kangoo ZE is priced from $50,390 plus on-road costs – though its E-Tech Electric successor could push well past $55,000, given its 35 per cent larger battery, new DC fast charging capability, and more potent electric motor.

It’s unclear if both petrol and diesel engines will be available in the new Kangoo in Australia, per the current model, or only one of the two. European buyers can choose between 1.3-litre turbo-petrol and 1.5-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinders.
