Mitsubishi Mirage production begins
Mitsubishi Motors has commemorated the start of full production of the all-new Mitsubishi Mirage with a line-off ceremony at its Laem Chabang Plant in Thailand today.
Mitsubishi's new Mirage - the company's "global compact car" - has been designed to meet the needs of both the fast-growing emerging markets who want affordable entry-level cars and advanced markets that demand environmentally conscious models.
The Thai-produced Mirage, which went on sale domestically on March 28, will roll out of Mitsubishi Motors' largest plant outside of Japan before being exported to other ASEAN markets, Japan and Europe, with Australia seeing the Colt-replacement arrive in early 2013.
The 1.2-litre MIVEC Mirage has received 15,000 orders in Thailand, with the car's combination of 4.5 litres per 100km fuel economy, low CO2 emissions and space for five clearly winning buyers over.
Once it reaches our shores the new Mitsubishi Mirage will have to fight the Toyota Yaris, Mazda2 and headline-grabbing Suzuki Swift for sales.
