Mercedes-AMG One hypercar production locked in for 2022 – report
The long-delayed hypercar – which is powered by a hybrid Formula One engine – finally has a timeline for customer deliveries.
The F1-derived Mercedes-AMG One hypercar will go into production next year, after numerous setbacks and delays.
According to a new report from Autocar, customers globally will be provided a timeline for delivery later this week.
The model – which is powered by a modified variant of the 1.6-litre V6 turbo hybrid power unit fitted to the 2016 Mercedes-AMG Formula One car, and tipped to produce more than 735kW – was shown off in concept guise in 2017 as the Project One.
Customer deliveries were initially scheduled for 2019, however problems tuning the engine to reliably idle below 5000rpm, and difficulties complying with emissions regulations, pushed the project back.
Just 275 examples of the car will be built, with each priced from approximately $US2.72 million ($AU3.8 million).
Drive understands eight Australian customers have ordered vehicles, however it's unclear how many of those will be registered for local roads.
