Mazda 3 Gets Top Marks For Safety

A raft of new cars that have only recently hit the tarmac around the world have been given five-star Euro NCAP scores recently.

Renault's next generation Clio small car, the widely anticipated Mazda 3 medium car and the all-electric Audi e-tron SUV all snagged themselves top marks in crash test scores, along with the Lexus UX hybrid SUV, the massively popular Toyota Corolla and the latest iteration of the Toyota RAV4 which only just arrived in Australian showrooms.

The Mazda 3—which was just recently launched in Australia after having been on sale internationally since early 2019—was the fourth car tested to score 98 percent for adult occupant protection in Euro NCAP.

The Volvo V40, Volvo XC60 and Alfa Romeo Giulia beat the popular medium car to the punch.

The Mazda 3 has been a staple of the Japanese car makers portfolio since 2004, and with the new generation—which is the fourth generation—takes a turn into a more luxury-focused market after being a huge player on the cheaper end of the spectrum in its first three generations.

Director of research Matthew Avery from Thatcham Research in the UK said that “achieving a five-star rating has never been so demanding, so it is pleasing to see carmakers continuing to rise to the challenge,” noting that many car makers are now making driver assistance systems standard in more of their vehicles.

“Consumers have never had it so good and can expect nothing less than top level safety from these vehicles.”
