Lexus teases electrified concept – UPDATE: New images released, reveal date confirmed
The Japanese luxury brand – which recently sold its 30,000th hybrid vehicle in Australia – has once again teased an upcoming electric concept.
UPDATE, 24 March 2021: Lexus has confirmed it will take the covers off its all-electric concept on Tuesday, 30 March 2021, at 9pm AEDT.
After much speculation, a new teaser image – supplied alongside the announcement – confirms the model will be a high-riding sedan.
It's understood the yet-to-be-named vehicle will be underpinned by Toyota's Direct4 electric powertrain architecture, and power will be sent to all four wheels.
2 February 2021: An upcoming electric Lexus concept has been teased for the second time, with a full unveiling expected in the second quarter of 2021.
The Toyota-owned luxury marque provided the first glimpse back in December 2020, with a darkened three-quarter image of the front fascia posted to Twitter (shown at bottom).
The latest images (above) appear to show the new concept's rear end – fitted with illuminated (or reflective) LEXUS lettering across the tailgate, the model also gets slim tail-lights, a tapered roofline, and a roof-mounted aerodynamic fin.
Lexus hasn't confirmed whether the concept is an SUV or sedan.
The Direct4 platform – designed for pure electric and hybrids vehicles – will underpin the concept, sending power to all four wheels.
The concept will be followed by Lexus' first standalone production electric vehicle in the second half of 2021.
The brand –– which has offered hybrid powertrains since 2006, when it introduced the RX 400h large SUV – recently announced the sale of its 30,000th electrified car in Australia.
