Leaked 2018 Renault Megane RS Australian Pricing

Full and official pricing details from Renault Australia are yet to be confirmed, but dealers have begun contacting customers ahead of the launch of the new Megane RS hatch, quoting expected pricing for the new model.

Renault looks set to position the new Megane RS as a middle-of-the pack offering, positioning the new model higher than cars like the Volkswagen Golf GTI and Ford Focus ST, but beneath more powerful cars like the Honda Civic Type R and Ford Focus RS.

Entry level versions of the Megane RS equipped with a six-speed manual are expected to be priced from $45,990 plus on-road costs, with a six-speed dual-clutch automatic version (a first for the Megane RS) expected to cost $2500 more.

Australia’s initial allocation of vehicles will be the entry-level Sport specification, with more performance oriented Cup and Trophy models due in the second half of 2018, equipped with firmer suspension and a limited slip differential missing from the Sport.

Sport and Cup variants will be powered by a 1.8-litre four-cylinder turbo engine with 205kW of power, while the Trophy will provide a slightly higher 220kW output. The Megane RS range will also feature Renault’s 4Control four-wheel steering system as seen on the Megane GT hatch, but will retain front wheel drive.

Against its competitors, the $45,990 Megane RS Sport will sit above the 184kW Ford Focus ST at $38,990 and 169kW five-door Golf GTI manual at $41,990, but below the 228kW Civic Type R which is priced from $50,990.

Megane RS pricing sits line-ball with fellow French hot hatch, the 200kW Peugeot 308 GTI but next-level all wheel drive performance hatches including the 213kW Golf R from $53,490 and 257kW Focus RS from $50,990 stil command a premium compared to the Megane RS
