Land Rover Discovery price and features
Next-gen British off-road icon arrives in Oz priced from $66k
Land Rover has confirmed full details for its all-new Discovery range ahead of its official showroom arrival next month.
The local division of the British off-road brand has revealed a massive model range for its seven-seat off-roader, consisting of 12 variants (plus a special First Edition for early adopters) that are defined across four trim levels - S, SE, HSE and HSE Luxury - and the option of two diesel engines and five- or seven-seat configurations.
The range opens up at $65,960 (plus on-road costs) for the entry-level, five-seater Discovery S TD4 and tops out at $131,871 (plus on-roads) for the fully-loaded First Edition that is limited to 2400 vehicles worldwide.
All Discovery models ride on a new, lighter aluminium platform that was first introduced on the latest-generation Range Rover luxury SUV and, apart from contributing to significant fuel economy savings, liberates more interior space within the cabin. Measuring 4970mm long, 2220mm wide and 1846mm tall, the Discovery is 141mm longer than its predecessor, but is marginally narrower and sits lower. However, Land Rover's designers have pushed the wheels further into each corner of the car, extending the wheelbase by 38mm, to open-up the cabin. As a result, the second row of seats can be pushed forward by 160mm to comfortably accommodate adults up to 1.91m tall in the final row.
Each also comes standard with an eight-speed automatic gearbox and all-wheel drive transmission. A low-range transfer case and air suspension are available as options on S models but are fitted as standard on all other variants.
Entry grade models across each trim line are powered by a 2.0-litre turbo diesel four cylinder in TD4 specification that produces 132kW/430Nm and consumes a claimed average of 6.3L/100km. Mid-spec SD4 variants have an upgraded version of the same engine that increases power outputs to 177kW/500Nm without too much penalty in fuel consumption, reaching a claimed average of 6.5L/100km. The range-topping SD6 engine is a 3.0-litre single-turbo V6 that produces 190kW/600Nm and consumes a claimed average of 7.2L/100km.
All models come with automated emergency braking, lane departure warning, a reverse camera and rear parking sensors and airbag coverage for all outboard occupants with a five-star independent crash-test rating.
In its most basic specification, the S models ride on 19-inch alloy wheels, has cloth trim and an eight-inch colour touch screen with Bluetooth connectivity. The SE grade picks up grained leather trim with eight-way electric adjustment for front seat passengers, ambient lighting, dual-zone climate control, sat nav while the HSE adds 20-inch alloys, electric steering column adjustment, tri-zone climate control, keyless entry, powered tailgate and a larger 10-inch touch screen with a Meridien sound system. At the top of the range, the HSE Luxury models have plush Windsor leather trim with 16-way powered adjustment and heating and cooling for front-seat occupants, adjustable ambient lighting, a chilled centre console, and a top-grade audio system with digital TV and a more comprehensive sat nav.
Like all Land Rover models, there is a long list of options allowing customers to personalise the Discovery, including the seven-seat configuration which costs $3400 across the range.
