Lamborghini unveils Aventador SVJ

Record-smashing supercar breaks cover at Pebble Beach

Lamborghini has revealed its most powerful and fastest production car ever.

Adding even more performance to its mid-engine supercar, the Aventador SVJ has been unveiled during Monterey Car Week at Pebble Beach in the US.

Featuring new aerodynamic technology, weight savings and the most powerful naturally-aspirated V12 engine the company has ever produced, it also (however temporary) claims the record for fastest production car around the Nürburgring, completing the torturous 20.6km Green Hell run in 6:44.97min.

Power is delivered by a revised version of the maker’s 6.5-litre naturally-aspirated V12 engine with new titanium intake runners and cylinder heads, producing 566kW at 8500rpm and 720Nm from 6750rpm through a seven-speed ‘Independent Shifting Rod’ automatic transmission to all four wheels. The result is a blistering 0-100km/h sprint time of just 2.8 seconds, going on to 200km/h in a further 5.8 seconds before maxing out at a little over 350km/h.

Helping suck it down to the road even more than the already fast SV, the SVJ employs the latest version of Lamborghini’s Aerodynamica Lamborghini Attiva (ALA) active aerodynamics system that debuted on the Huracan Performante. Employing a swivelling front splitter, active side fins, variable flow hood upfront and redesigned body floor with vortex generators, downforce has improved by 70 per cent while the drag co-efficient drops by one per cent.

Fronting a more aggressive look, the body has grown wider and at the rear is a wild diffuser design, centre-mount exhaust and large rear wing with further tweaks for aero gains.

Weighing 1595kg, the SVJ has undergone a diet consisting of lightweight carbon-fibre components and 19-inch Nireo alloy rims with specially-formulated Pirelli P Zero Corsa rubber that have a more rigid sidewall, put under pressure by rear-wheel steering.

Suspension geometry has also improved for track use with 50 per cent stiffer anti-rollbars, 15 per cent harder dampers and a track-focused tune for the Magneto Rheological Suspension, traction control system and ABS braking. It produces what Lamborghini describes as the perfect car for the demanding driver.

Inside are mods cons like an infotainment system with racing telemetry, complimentary Apple CarPlay and drive mode button to flick between Strada, Sport, Corsa and suitably named Ego mode.

Limited to just 900 units and priced from over $700,000 the SVJ is reserved for elite track racers, but an even more limited special version, the SVJ 63, was also revealed at Pebble Beach. Restricted to just 63 units the uniquely configured model with extra carbon-fibre parts pays tribute to the Italian brand’s founding year.

The Aventador SVJ has been confirmed for Australia with pricing and availability yet to be confirmed.
