Kia reveals the sounds of silence

Safety and comfort at the forefront of noise-cancelling tech

Kia has announced sound-breaking technology that will change the way we drive.

Separated Sound Zone, or SSZ, regulates the acoustic fields inside the vehicle using a combination of speakers around the cabin to create an individualised experience for each occupant.

Essentially, each passenger will be able to hear isolated sounds without overlap.

The Korean car company has been developing SSZ technology since 2014 and has likened the tech to wearing noise-cancelling headphones – without the intrusion.

With a simple Bluetooth connection for each device, passengers will have the privacy to make phone calls and listen to their own music, while still being able to interact with each other.

Kia says the new technology will improve road safety with less chance of drivers being distracted by passengers, while still being able to hear important alerts and focus on vehicle control in an isolated sound zone.

Kia says we can expect to have SSZ available for installation within the next two years.
