In an interview with Autovisie in the Netherlands, Mr Callum said the design of the Sport Break started after the new XF sedan layout was finalised. He says it was a big challenge to come up with a shooting break design, using the sedan as a base.
Mr Callum said due to the compromises that had to be made in coming up with a sleek estate shape, he suspects the XF Sport Break won't be the most spacious in its class, but says the aesthetics will more than make up for this.
Bringing out a wagon version of the already great-looking Jaguar XF could give Jag a competitive edge over its usual German rivals like the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, BMW 5 Series and Audi A6 wagons.
Specific engine details of the Sport Break haven't been annnounced yet, but reports say to expect the powertrains from the sedan to be carried over into the wagon line-up. We'll keep you updated.
In the meantime, let us know what you think. Could Jaguar pull this off successfully and take sales from its rivals? Or should Jag stick to making traditional luxury sedans?
