Infiniti Reveals New Premium Sedan Rival

Infiniti has unveiled its new Q Inspiration Concept at the Detroit motor show which brings new looks, autonomous driving capabilities and a fresh engine family to the premium Japanese maker’s future vehicle line-up.

Presented as a mid-size sedan that will see production sooner rather than later, the Infiniti Q Inspiration could succeed the Q50 as a rival to the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, BMW 3-Series and Audi A4.

Infiniti is promising the power of a six-cylinder engine and the economy of a four with the introduction of its compact VC-Turbo four-cylinder power plant, pushing the nominal expiry date of petrol-fuelled cars further into the future.

“ProPILOT” driver aids offer a new level of driver assistance for the brand, liberating customers from what it describes as “mundane and stressful drives” under what could be considered level three autonomous capabilities.

The concept is anchored by a new design language for Infiniti that brings a sharper edge to the brand’s current family of flowing, organic shapes. Brightwork that might normally accompany the badge and grille surrounds has been replaced by white lighting elements, while the headlamps and grille opening lurk behind fine vertical slices in the car’s shapely skin. 

Inside follows minimalist design rules with clean expansive surfaces augmented by glass displays and control screens similar to Range Rover Velar or Porsche Panamera luxury machines, while open pore wood and contrasting light and dark leather trim heighten the feel of luxury needed for battle against Europe’s finest rivals.
