Hyundai Veloster concept: 300kW Velocity headed for 2012 SEMA show
Hyundai America has released the first images and details of the Hyundai Velocity concept ahead of the hard-core hot-hatch's unveiling at the 2012 SEMA aftermarket show in Las Vegas.
Developed as a collaborative effort between the design and engineering departments of Hyundai America's Technical Centre in California, the Velocity concept sports aggressive, no-compromises, racecar-inspired styling with performance enhancements to match.
The Hyundai Velocity concept’s exterior features what the car maker calls a “tarmac-scraping lower body kit” with generous front and rear brake cooling ducts, a lift-reducing rear diffuser, oversized rear wing, 19-inch lightweight satin-charcoal racing wheels, and #1 racecar livery.
Under the bonnet sits a Cosworth-tuned version of the standard Veloster Turbo’s 150kW/265Nm 1.6-litre direct injection petrol engine. Performance pistons, rods, turbocharger, intercooler, intake manifold, fuel system, engine management and a custom exhaust combine to boost power beyond 300kW and torque to 475Nm.
Brembo four-piston calipers and two-piece rotors are charged with the task of stopping the Velocity, while Bilstein springs with monotube dampers and Kumho Ecsta SPT high-performance tyres sit at the corners.
Inside, the concept is equipped with a CPR integrated roll bar, red-stitched leather and suede upholstery, Race-Keeper video GPS data acquisition system and helmets, gloves, shoes and seatbelt from Sparco.
The Hyundai Velocity concept will debut at the 2012 SEMA show on October 30.
