Hyundai increases prices and the cost of metallic paint on popular models
Price rises have been applied to most models in the Hyundai range, and the cost of metallic paint has gone up, too.
Hyundai Australia has increased the prices of its most popular models by between $300 and $700 since the start of this month – and now also charges more for metallic paint.
Although the revised recommended retail prices (RRPs) are yet to be updated on all industry price guides, Hyundai dealers in Australia have been advised of price rises for the following models from 1 February 2022:
- Hyundai i30 hatch, up $300
- Hyundai i30 sedan, up $500
- Hyundai Sonata, up $575
- Hyundai Venue, up $300
- Hyundai Kona, up $300
- Hyundai Tucson, up $400
- Hyundai Palisade, up $700
The cost of metallic paint on the above models has increased from $495 to $595.
Given most cars sold have metallic paint optioned, it effectively adds another $100 to the above price rises.
Hyundai says, due to the large backlog of orders, not all vehicles ordered before 1 February 2022 will be protected from the price rises.
"Due to the high number of current back orders, there may be some instances where a current customer-sold vehicle will not be invoiced prior to the effective delivery date of 1 February 2022. (Hyundai) cannot price protect these vehicles," a Hyundai bulletin to dealers says, adding sales staff should notify customers in those instances.
The above price rises do not include Hyundai N Performance models. They are due to receive price increases from 1 April 2022, as reported here.
