Honda releases limited-edition Civic Type R, paints TCR race car to celebrate
What better way to celebrate the launch of a special edition hot hatch, than with a race car to match?
An even more hardcore version of the 2021 Honda Civic Type R has arrived in Australia, with just 20 examples of the Sunlight Yellow Type R Limited Edition available to local buyers.
From a global production run of just 1020 vehicles, the Civic Type R LE adds forged 20-inch BBS alloy wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres, which reduce the car’s overall weight by 10 kilograms.
Priced from $66,700 (before options and on-road costs), the Limited Edition Civic asks $11,710 more than the ‘regular’ Type R. Power and torque outputs of 228kW and 400Nm are unchanged, but the reduced weight ups the power-to-weight ratio to 169.1kW/t.
Exclusively available in Sunlight Yellow, the car’s arrival has been marked by a matching race car, by way of Tony D’Alberto’s TCR Australia Civic. The race car will make its colour-scheme debut at Morgan Park Raceway in Queensland on August 13, 2021.
The Limited Edition Type R is the last chance buyers have to purchase a current generation example of the hot Honda, with Australian order books having officially closed late last year, ahead of the car’s end of production in July.
